Lauren has been an amazing advocate for my son. She comes to every evaluation meeting and addresses every concern I have. My son has multiple disabilities and he is a consistent honor roll student. He struggled a lot with remote learning and was failing three classes by the midterm. I didn’t know what to do. Lauren was able to communicate his needs as well as mine to the team, make changes to his accommodations and add additional goals to his ed plan to prepare for the coming school year. He was back on the honor roll by the end of the school year. He was so happy and proud of himself and I am incredibly grateful for her support.

Lauren Robinson of Mind Motives was great at making us think of students’ perspectives and how they are affected and accepting feedback from other educators that are here to help us.

Working with Lauren, I have been able to have some really insightful conversations. She has been a tremendous support in providing me with proper language and guidelines when advocating for some of my higher need students, whether it was behaviorally or academically.

Frequently Asked Questions

Learn How Mind Motives Can Help You

How do I know if my child has a disability?

It is recommended that you talk to your child’s pediatrician if you are having concerns about their mental, behavioral or physical health. Deficits in any of these areas could directly affect your child’s school performance. If your child is having trouble making progress at school, it may be time to take a look at their overall performance at school and possibly request special education testing.

How do I have my child evaluated for Special Education?

You can request an evaluation by writing a letter to your school principal or special education administrator. You can also discuss these issues with your child’s pediatrician. They will be able to provide you with information and referrals concerning your child’s overall mental and behavioral health.

Do you evaluate children for Special Education?
Mind Motives Consulting does not provide specific Special Education Testing. We can provide recommendations to improve your child’s services and/or tutoring services specific to your child’s goals.
How do I know if my child qualifies for special education services?

The Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA) identifies 13 categories that students must identify with in order to qualify for Special Education Services. They include: intellectual disability, a hearing impairment (including deafness), a speech or language impairment, a visual impairment (including blindness), a serious emotional disturbance (referred to in this part as “emotional disturbance”), an orthopedic impairment, autism, traumatic brain injury, an other health impairment, a specific learning disability, deaf-blindness, or multiple disabilities, and who, by reason thereof, needs special education and related services.

What is a 504 Plan?

This plan details how a student with a disability or impairment will receive a free and appropriate education.

Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act is a federal law that ensures that students with disabilities or impairments have services and accommodations that allow them to access school activities and curriculum. It is a Civil Rights Law that ensures a student is not discriminated against due to their disability.

What is an Individual Education Plan (IEP)?

This plan details how a student with a disability or impairment will receive a free and appropriate education. This also includes goals and objectives, and identifies the academic setting in which the student receives their special education services.

The Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA) is a federal law that ensures that a school meets the needs of a student with a specific disability so that they make adequate academic progress based on what they know and can learn. This includes an Individual Education Plan (IEP) that stipulates goals, accommodations and related services. It’s like the blueprint for helping a student make progress.
