Navigating Special Education Can Be Hard, But It Doesn’t Have To Be

Lauren Robinson of Mind Motives Consulting is here to support you and your child or students.

Meet Lauren Robinson

Professional Special Education Consultant, Coach, and Advocate

In my 20 years as an educator with a specific focus on Social-Emotional learning and Special Education, I have supported many students who have a variety of needs and backgrounds, including Autism, ADD/ADHD and Dyslexia. I know that the process of receiving a diagnosis, developing annual plans, monitoring progress, and providing day-to-day tutoring can be overwhelming.

As a passionate advocate for special ed students, their parents, and teachers, I am here to help you.

Guidance for All Involved = Student Success

I have been able to view educational processes through many lenses as a teacher, administrator, and advocate. I am also the parent of a child with high needs. As a result, I am able to provide holistic and practical guidance. Support for students, parents, and educators through the special education process is critical for optimal student outcomes.

Experienced Teacher

What I value the most about being an educator is helping students to identify and build on their strengths. For me, the reward happens in those lightbulb moments when a student is able to trust themselves enough to get through a challenging problem.

My ultimate goal is to create learning experiences that encourage children and youth to have a sense of agency, healthy community engagement, and a strong sense of self.

Where can I even begin to talk about a person who has been instrumental in both my life but more importantly my son’s life. Lauren’s compassion and patience lead to my son developing self-esteem and believing in himself. She was able to teach him to believe in himself beyond his learning disability. Lauren not only worked with my son but she listened to my concerns as well. She was crucial in helping my son finally have a correct diagnosis and then services to go along. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Lauren empowered me to face a school district that was pushing kids off of their educational plans. I doubted myself when it came to telling the school what I needed and what my child needed. She reminded me to be mindful of how my child was thinking and feeling about his challenges which helped him to advocate more for himself. She took me through the steps of setting up a new evaluation with the school and advocate for the things I knew would help him be more successful. With her help, my child and I were both able to be more vocal and realize that we are central to the planning process.

“tremendous support”

Working with Lauren I have been able to have some really insightful conversations. She has been a tremendous support in providing me with proper language and guidelines when advocating for some of my higher need students, whether it was behaviorally or academically. —...

Frequently Asked Questions

Learn How Mind Motives Can Help You

How do I know if my child has a disability?

It is recommended that you talk to your child’s pediatrician if you are having concerns about their mental, behavioral or physical health. Deficits in any of these areas could directly affect your child’s school performance. If your child is having trouble making progress at school, it may be time to take a look at their overall performance at school and possibly request special education testing.

How do I have my child evaluated for Special Education?

You can request an evaluation by writing a letter to your school principal or special education administrator. You can also discuss these issues with your child’s pediatrician. They will be able to provide you with information and referrals concerning your child’s overall mental and behavioral health.
